Tablecloth Rug
Regarding my attempt to recycle old stained tablecloths (pictured in Seven Things Saturday--Week 2) into rag rugs: I frogged the first one last night, as it was evident that one tablecloth would not make a very big rug. It makes a strip.
It is amazing that two rather large tablecloths (the rectangular kind, for a table that seats six) knit on 15mm needles (US size 19) will make a rug that is just 31x19 inches--doormat size. (Sorry, Steph, not big enough for furniture! I think it will relax and stretch a bit with some use.)
I often measure my knitted projects in terms of audiobooks or movies. This one took two movies--Off the Map and The Corporation--and it was done.

Off the Map? That's one of my favorite movies. My husband and I were driving home and saw the crew filming footage from the opening scene where the title pops up.
I discovered your blog from Zimmermania. Hello from a fellow New Mexican.
Hi! Off the Map was a very nice surprise. I especially liked the "New Mexico is a powerful place" sentiment. It is. I fell in love the very summer I arrived here.
What a great way to use up old tablecloths, it looks great.
It does look great, and we weren't really contemplating putting large pieces of furniture on it. Just a dining room chair that scrapes the floor. In any case, this is really a cool project.
The movie premiered in Taos and we got to go to opening night. When the "New Mexico is a powerful place" was said the whole audience burst out laughing. Afterwards, the director said that was one of his favorite moments because people in NY or LA wouldn't get that joke.
Well, some of us in LA get the joke. :)
